Empty Nester

Austin, my little brother and other love of my life, is growing up. He is leaving for college on September 10th to start his own adventures in Winter Park, Fl. The two of us went to visit this school two years ago and was blown away. It’s called Full Sail: School of Film, Art, Design and Media Production and is beyond what I ever did in college. I am so excited for him but needless to say, I’m starting to get the empty nest feeling. Austin came over last night and we began the first of our cooking lessons. Last night was pasta. We created the old spaghetti standby with marinara and veggies, then cold Greek pasta and a homemade pesto sauce. Pasta’s cheap, healthy and great to eat all week for the college kid on a budget (they don’t have dorms or meal plans). Later this week we will try something else and then move on to balancing a checkbook. After he left, Nate and I took a long walk. It was finally cool enough to be outside and we walked so far the uncomfortable flip-flops I was wearing forced Nate to carry me home the last half mile piggyback style. I am so lucky to have such sweet boys in my life.
