Thanksgiving

This year for Thanksgiving we were in NYC and hosted our first Thanksgiving dinner as a couple. Our good friends Curtis and Sarissa came in from Florida so we had someone to spend the day with. It was an excellent time, and the meal turned out pretty good I think. I’m always nervous cooking anything for Curtis since he is a professionally trained chef. However we had a chef of our own in the kitchen, Chef-Boyardee. Just kidding, Anne made the majority of the meal, I stayed with the stuff I knew mashed potatoes and homemade hot rolls. I did take a try at the Turkey which turned out pretty decent for my first crack at it. Everything the Mrs. made was, predictably, delicious. We had a little wine, a little champagne, and a little beer which all spelled a good time for the four of us. Football was watched, and good times were had. The menu top to bottom was great I think it consisted of as follows:

Traditional brined turkey with thyme gravy
Cornbread, sausage and apple stuffing
Buttermilk mashed potatoes with gorgonzola white wine sauce
Sweet potato pancakes with ricotta
Garlicky green beans with pine nuts
Goat cheese and Monterey Jack mac and cheese
Three piece hot-rolls
Pumpkin and apple butter pie with gingersnap and pecan crust
Chocolate chestnut mousse

Everything turned out great, although I can never make the rolls quite as good as my mom does. Basically it was a great day, a lot of relaxing and enjoying the food and drink. Hopefully everyone else had a great day too.

Also, here is where we chowed down:

Eleven Madison Park- heavenly and worth every penny.
Bouchon Bakery-Great start but lost a little gas. I’d go for pate and wine and stop there. I’ll starting saving right now for the real deal-Per se, so maybe when were 64.
Katz- still thinking about that Rubin, much better than Carnegie with a cool atmosphere.
Momofuku-3 against 1-Still dreaming of pork buns and the best sweetbreads, with brains at their finest.
Gus’ Pickles-Some places really are worth the hype.
Babycakes-Fooled the boys with these healthy babies.
