With a nod to The Jeffersons, the Mrs. and I recently moved downtown. Not "downtown" per se, but much closer to it than we were before. Since this is a pretty belated post, most of you likely knew that already but nonetheless I'm covering it anyway. We moved from 91st street to 5th street (crunch the numbers if you need to), on basically the same street (only 3 blocks farther east). Lucky for us, the day after we moved a giant crane fell on the building we used to live in. As many of you probably know from my numerous tirades, I absolutely hate it when crane's fall on buildings I live in, so this was fortunate. We paid someone to do the moving for us (handsomely I might add), this was the first time Natey was willing to dig deep enough to do that. Let me say, if given the option of doing it yourself or paying someone else, the latter is far superior. Particularly since we moved into an apartment on the 6th floor of a building without an elevator. Watching 4 guys, each at least double my size, huff and puff their way into a sweaty oblivion, made me very happy that I decided to pony up. In fact I sat in a chair with my feet up, puffing a cigar and laughing at them, while telling them very specifically where I wanted each object. They got a real kick out of this. Actually I felt kind of bad for the lads, but then I reminded myself how pissed I would have been if I was the one doing this, and all of my sympathy melted away.
Anyway, so we are now living in a very different neighborhood. It's much more diverse, and the restaurants and bars are far cooler. In fact, this is where we typically went out prior to our move so it's a real time saver for us. Our apartment is considerably smaller. We still have a bedroom, but our living room is a fraction of the size of our old one, and a small fraction not like 99/100 or anything. We are all settled in now, so we are warming up to our new place. We miss the space we had before, but we don't miss paying a ton more for it. So for those coming to visit, be prepared that we now accomodate guests much like the grandparents in Willy Wonka. Weather permitting, we both walk to work now, so that is nice. Plus with the stairs factored in, I no longer have to go to the gym, which I never did anyway. Basically there are pluses and minuses to both apartments we've lived in, and we are happy with the new place. Peace out beeeyotches.
