Ween and our Gaycation
Seriously blogging hiatus. Thanks to those who actually care about our lives and ask about the status of this thing. I’m (maybe we’ll, since Nate’s the funny one) take a crack at this again. I like to come back and read it every 6 months or so to remember what the hell we did with ourselves. I know that excuses suck, but I’ve been working mad hours and Nate’s working as a male nurse while going to CRNA School at Columbia in what we like to call his “spare” time. We go days without seeing each other, so in the rare occurrence that we do, we actually like each other quite a bit. I won’t try to bore you with what we’ve done since the last entry and just get on with a start fresh.
This last weekend we went to a Ween concert in Asbury Park. If you don’t know, Nate is rabid Ween fan and I like them quite a bit myself. I have a crush on the piece of eye candy guitar player and I’m all for jam band kind of show so this was right up my alley. The concert was at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park-home of Bruce Springsteen, and is now on my list of favorite venues. Its right off of the beach and small enough to see no matter where you’re at -plus, no seats, so everyone is rocking out.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from Asbury Park, but in case you’re not aware, anyone on the East Coast, especially New Jersey residents, have a real soft spot for The Boss-race, income or age seems to turn a blind eye for this middle age man from the Jersey Shore. I knew that the run-down shore town was being revitalized, but had visions of a once-decrepit beach area mixed with rabid Bruce fans. My only correct assumption is that the town is being revitalized and when we decided to check for a room in at the Empress Hotel upon arrival and decided to stay the evening, we were greeted with a jovial lesson on the all-thing-Asbury, which is now becoming known for the recent influx of the gay population and is now home to the ever popular Gaycation. The Empress Hotel has does an amazing job of catering to this clientele. After a few drinks on the boardwalk with friends that live nearby and scoring some cheap swimsuits, Nate, and I learned that the Empress Pool was quite the hot spot. Disco ball and drag reigned supreme. I was the only lady to be found and Nate was the only gent not in hot pants or a Speedo. I’m still working on getting him into a pair of those. The concert was even more fun and seeing an insanely good band in the open air is unparallel. We capped off the morning with a swim in the ocean. Both of us highly recommend a concert here and staying at the hotel if you get a chance (it’s right next door, with a fun club, pool, awesome service).
