Nate and I both work downtown and we live uptown. You could consider this inconvenient, but being new transplants, it allows, or rather, forces us to roam other neighborhoods. One of my favorite places to be in the city is at Union Square Farmers Market right near my work. I have always had this long time love affair with a farmers market. There's something so great about all of the beautiful colors and smells and then there's the fact that you are supporting an ongoing effort to eat local. The Union Square market is open year round, 4 times a week. I spend my entire lunch strolling and eating. Every fresh fruit and vegetable are requisite, along with gorgeous flowers, meats, cheeses, organic baked goods (makes me feel better about the double chocolate cookies) and a very special seafood tent that brings the fish in each morning from their boat. You can also find local artist that sell anything from homemade clothes to homemade porn. Just kidding, but there's some fascinating art that could pass. This afternoon in particular, I found a new stand that made homemade pies and happened to have rhubarb (not strawberry-rhubarb) which happens to be both Nate's favorite and out of season (they are in a cooler area so there is a small amount to be had). I'm not above admitting that I briefly considered unwrapping it and throwing a little flour on my apron when he comes home for dinner. My Mimi would be ashamed.
