Bands

My cousin, Nick, and his band, the Umbrella's http://www.umbrellasmusic.com/, are on tour this year and were in NYC at the Knitting Factory on Friday night. http://www.knittingfactory.com/ This is a good place to see live music, lots of different rooms and smaller spaces with their own bar. His band is super good and it was cool to see him play. We also saw Lola Ray http://www.lolaray.com/, who totally rocked out. We also went to this really great bar, Nancy's Whiskey Pub-a total dive, with cheap drinks and shuffleboard.

The rest of the weekend was such a great time. Saturday, Nate and I went on a pub crawl centered around finding the cheapest drinks that we could find. $3 margaritas and $2 Guinness made for a savvy bar tab and plenty of celebrating. Sunday we found a free pool on 77th that overlooked the East river. Prime people watching that only a public pool can provide, but it was big, clean and had a diving pool that, sadly, was closed that day, as well as a park, basketball and handball courts. This should provide a nice relief to the summer heat. One thing worth mentioning, if you've been to NYC you will notice the lack of overweight people, it's hard to be heavy due to the amount of walking you are forced to do everyday in the city. It seemed that every chunky individual in Manhattan, including a dozen or so men with breast larger than my own, made it to a place where the least amount of clothing possible is worn, Speedos seemed to be in abundance as well. Oh well, it made for nice waves.
