Fat Camp

My brother, Austin, came for a 5 day visit this past weekend and it was our first time to have family here. Austin’s fun to hang out or travel with because he’s open to new experiences and loves to try new food. He had never been to NYC so we didn’t stop the entire time.
My typical Labor Day weekend has usually involves all of our friends, a boat, many cans of beer and a drunken goodbye to Tablerock Lake. This Labor Day felt more like a stay at La Jolla Fat Camp. We walked, we ran, we went to the gym (I bought myself a new sweater in honor gracing a treadmill on a holiday weekend), we rented bikes and huffed and puffed up the hills in Central Park.
We also ate at some very cool places. Panna II is a must on our list to take every visitor; it’s a crazy Indian joint that goes wild for birthdays. Austin wanted to try an good Chinese , so we found a great noodle shop where you can choose to add culinary delights such as: fried gluten, pigs blood squares and animal feet, tofu, greens and curried squid. It was delicious and ultra cheap. We did a tea ceremony at a Japanese Tea House and I finally found Babycakes, this darling retro bakery that serves healthy (as in no sugar, flour, gluten etc.) cupcakes, cookies, muffins etc. Sounds impossible, but there is a reason that they won “best cupcake” last year. And since they are so healthy, I had one cupcake, a brownie bite, a scone and a cookie for lunch. I figured it equaled approximately one regular bad-for-you-cupcake.
