After leaving the city the last couple of weekends, it was nice to stay home and relax this past weekend. Nate has been on an ass-kicking 2 week rotation in the ICU, so this the past weekend was meant to be a chill one. Friday night was spent watching a movie, which we never seem to have time to do anymore. On that note: put Darjeeling Limited in your Netflix queue. I spent my day shopping and at the Union Square Farmers Market while the Mr. worked on Saturday. By the time the evening rolled around, our plans for a quiet weekend went out the door and I had a glass of wine in my hand before the hubby had even made it home from work (at least we’re out actually to spend quality time together). We decided to try out this BYO sushi place, Cube 63 and since it was in walking distance, we could grab some booze on the way there. Our liquor store of random choice offered a walk-up style window. The convo went a lil’ something like this:
Gentleman behind the Glass: How much you wanna pay?
Nate: I’d like a Pinot Noir if you have it.
Gent: How bout $8 bucks?
Nate: Um, what brand is it?
Gent: (brings over a bottle) Looks like a Woodbridge Merlot…
Nate: Do you have anything else? We’ll pay more.
Gent: What do want?
Nate: Whadda have in the $15 dollar range that says Pinot Noir on the bottle?
Gent: (brings over a bottle) This is the $15 wine. It says that.
Nate: It’ll get the job done.
Nate puts the cash under the door and out comes the $15 wine that did the trick. The wait for Cube 63 was a little long, but totally worth it. They poured our wine while we waited. We requested to sit at the sushi bar and ordered the Omakase. It’s so cheap here that it’s almost scary. We sat for hours and ate some of the best parts of a fish. Ken, the sushi chef definitely treated us right, so we’ll be back sooner than later.
Sunday we discovered the river walk along the FDR just a couple of blocks from our apartment. It’s crazy that such places exist and we are just discovering them now. We bought 75 cent coconut frozen ices from the woman in the park and watched a pair of senior citizen men puff a blunt after a nice long jog. Ahh, lazy Sunday.
