We spent last weekend celebrating Nate’s birthday with our NY friends at a bar in the East Village called, Kabin. The bar was supposed to be like a cabin, with the faux logs and fireplace and the deer hunter game. It seems that New Yorkers use a fieldtrip to Bass Pro for a lesson on wilderness décor. As far as I recall, most cabins to not have d.j. spinning Prince, velvet banquets or signature cocktails (I’ve even stayed in the fancy ones at Big Cedar Lodge). Either way, this cabin was cozy enough to keep us until last call and great times were had.
On Nate’s actual 30th birthday, we went to a hamburger bar and re
staurant, JG Melons, that’s know to have some great burgers and since Nate is on a mission to find the best in this city and we had not tried this place yet, it was the perfect time. The atmosphere has a great neighborhood feel (bonus that it’s in our hood) and the burgers lived up to their reputation. Great fries too and cheap beer. What more can you ask for? If I can’t locate my husband, I’ll look here first.
* Photo is of the cake that I baked and decorated for Nate. I even bought one of those icing bags with the attachments. I am so out of shape that my arm hurt for three days from squeezing that icing out.
